BE First: The Foundation of Everything You Create

I remember for a while, back in the day, I lived in reverse.

I thought: “When I have the result, then I’ll feel confident. When I achieve the goal, then I’ll show up fully.”

So, I focused on doing more, pushing more and trying to create outcomes that would finally make me feel like the leader I wanted to be.

And, what I’ve come to understand, what changed everything was this:

I wasn’t out of effort. I was out of order. The shift didn’t happen when I did more. It happened when I started BEING different first.

The LIFT Framework is simple and powerful: It is rooted in the  BE → DO → HAVE model and I first learned about this model through studying Stephen Covey’s work and it has changed my life and the people I get to work with lives too.

Most of us have been conditioned to live it in reverse:

HAVE → DO → BE

We believe, “Once I have the result, I’ll feel confident. Once I reach the goal, I’ll feel aligned. Once I succeed, I’ll be the leader I want to be.”

It doesn’t work that way because what you have is a reflection of what you consistently do and what you consistently do is a reflection of who you are being.

So, if you want different results, you don’t start with doing more. You start with being more intentional.

Being:

  • Clear in your values

  • Aligned in your energy

  • Grounded in your identity

From that place, your actions shift naturally and your results begin to follow. This is the difference between forcing change and creating it from alignment. And that a sweet way to live!

As you’re practicing this, ask yourself, “Am I trying to create results by doing more or by aligning with who I am being first?”

Before you take action this week, pause and ask, “Who do I need to be in this moment to create the result I want?” Then, let that answer guide what you do.

Reminder: You don’t achieve your way into alignment. You align your way into achievement.
